A work in progress…
For those that have listened to the original podcast From 1991 to 2021 will know that the content is raw, mistakes are in it, not to say that I can’t even tell what age I am in the first podcast, because as I have said before I had lied about my age so much in my early years on the gay scene – it now has affected on how I remember events!
My Let’s Talk series is more polished because I have learnt or relearned how to do various things in regard to sound editing. This now brings me to my music videos…
I am learning to sing for the stage show, so far I have had only 12 weeks of training. So at the moment, the music videos are as raw as the original podcast. There IS room for improvement. There are things I haven’t done for ages due to my mental and neurological health, as well as my drug addiction. Performing is one of them – singing is one of those things I haven’t done for 30 years! Video editing is another, and I am still trying to get the hang of green screen lighting in such an enclosed space – which I mentioned on my company site, I am not used to working with these tight restrictions – the same goes with editing sound.
I would be foolish to say this is my best work, it’s a work in progress at the moment, much like my mental health, I know this is the beginning of me getting back into what I love, whilst helping to spread awareness on gay and bi men’s mental health at the same time.
Certainly with the lighting of the videos and the technique of my singing I would be the first to criticise as I KNOW I can do better, but I am on a budget on the size of my recording area, and that I am literally using an iPhone for recording my videos. Same with the singing, the videos were recorded with 6 WEEKS of lessons, and we were only wanting them to get to the stage of studio level, i.e. I can cut heavy breathing and make multiple takes if need be – although still not perfect, because I am still learning!
I will be doing cover versions of musical numbers after the initial 5 videos from the show – this I hope will show I am developing more as a performer that can sing – I will also go back to the tracks from the show just before the show, to show how much I have improved for the show (I now used the word show so much, it sounds and looks weird!)
As the title of this post says, I am still a work in progress, and I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone whilst doing this.
